The Tebow’s

I had the honor of being invited to an event for a Pregnancy center Expectations in Lewisburg last night, where the key note speaker was Pam Tebow. I am not much of a football fan, but obviously had heard of Tim Tebow and his devotion to the Lord. I had no idea of their family back story.

As Bob Tebow was giving a sermon as a missionary in the Philippines he felt overwhelming grief for the unborn children that are lost to abortion. As he wept, he cried out to God and said give me another child God and I will raise him up to be a minister and I will call him Timothy. He won’t home that night and prayed to the Lord with his wife and 4 small children that the Lord give them a son , they even specifically prayed to bring forth “Timmy”. Pam indeed became pregnant. They were elated, but soon the pregnancy would prove to be a hard one. Pam was bleeding quiet a bit, and visited a Dr. there in the Phillipenes. The Doctor told her that this was not a viable pregnancy but a tumor that consisted of fetal tissue and that she should abort right away, or bleed to death.

Pam and Bob had all their faith in the Lord, who they had promised there life to years before, when they got married. Both coming from non Christian homes. Pam had given her heart at 12 years old, and Bob at 16. When they married they vowed to serve their master in all they did.

They left the Dr. and Pam went on carrying this child, while bleeding for the next several months. She received no medical care for the rest of her pregnancy and was completely relying on God, who had heard their prayers and given them this baby. Finally, the bleeding stopped, and they flew to Manila where she gave birth to Timothy Tebow. He was malnourished they prayed and asked God to keep him strong. God’s plan for “Timmy” as they lovingly call him, was for him to indeed be strong and to be a minister just like Bob had told God he would raise him to be.

You see though God works in His ways and not ours : (Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding Proverbs 3:5) Pam and Bob assumed that Timmy would be strong in heart and a minister in a church, but God had greater plans, and they did not question the Lord, even when things were not panning out the way they had envisioned them to. Tim, did become very strong as you can tell by his large build, and he did become a minister to the world, but not in a church, on a football field, where God used Tim to capture the world’s attention and to glorify Christ all along.

God does not call us to ministry in any form for the glorification of ourselves, he calls us to ministry and positions us for success so that when the world looks at each and everyone of us working for God, they get a glimpse of his son Jesus Christ.

Imagine, if Pam and Bob would have let fear creep in and questioned God’s intentions and aborted for safety reasons, to protect Pam’s life. Tim who glorifies the Lord in all he does, be it from scripture verses written with sharpie marker under his eyes for each game, or to “tebowing” during his games, which he says is to humble himself in front of the world and to give all glory to Christ who strengthens him. Even to lose a game, and not get angry, but acknowledge that God even had a plan for that. All of this attention to the Lord because of him would have been missing from the pages of God’s playbook. How many souls who have reached out to the Lord and accepted Him as savior of their lives because of Tim’s example, would have never been saved?

God had a specific plan; a BIG PLAN, for Tim’s life. His parents were obedient, and the blessings are so obviously overflowing from their lives:
( Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper
you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future)

2 Corinthians 9:13 Because of the service by which you have proved yourselves, others will praise God for the obedience that accompanies your confession of the gospel of Christ, and for your generosity in sharing with them and with everyone else.

Listening to Pam tell her story was a true inspiration to me. She is a mother of great passion and perseverance, faith exudes from her every word and actions from her life.

A living example of how great our God is, and all that he can and will do for us when we give him our heart!

Be Blessed
